About Nathan
I'm a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with twenty years of nursing experience. I also teach mental health nursing and pharmacology to nursing students, and that teaching background carries into everything I do. I want you to understand what's happening, not just leave with a prescription.I provide both medication management and psychotherapy. Your situation, your life, and your goals all factor into the decisions we make together. People describe me as approachable, calm, and thorough. I care about getting things right, and I take the time to do that.
Getting help shouldn't feel like a maze. I'll walk you through it.
Services
How I Can Help
Diagnostic Clarification
Sometimes patients arrive with a stack of diagnoses collected over years of short appointments, and they're not sure which ones still fit, or ever did. I take the time to look at the whole picture with you. An accurate diagnosis is the foundation for treatment that actually works.Medication Management
Thoughtful prescribing. We'll talk through your options together, start low, and adjust based on how you're actually feeling. My goal is the fewest medications at the lowest doses that keep you well. If a medication is no longer needed, we'll plan a safe way off it.Psychotherapy
Therapy shaped around what you need. Sometimes that means space to talk things through with someone who really listens. Sometimes it means structured, skills-based work like CBT or ACT. We'll figure out the right mix together.ADHD Evaluation
Trouble focusing has many causes, and ADHD is only one of them. I take the evaluation seriously: a thorough clinical assessment plus objective computerized testing (QbCheck) when the diagnosis isn't already well established. Getting the diagnosis right is what makes the treatment work.Lab Work
Labs matter in psychiatry. They rule out medical causes, keep ongoing treatment safe, and guide dosing for medications like lithium. I order labs at cost with no markup. You see the exact price upfront, often less than going through insurance, and get drawn at a nearby Quest or Labcorp.In-Person and Telehealth
Seeing patients at my Chattanooga office, with telehealth available across Tennessee. If you're local, I prefer our first visit to be in person. After that, virtual follow-ups are available for convenience.
What Guides My Practice
The goal is to ease your suffering, not just give it a name. You deserve to understand your diagnosis, your medication, and the reasoning behind both.Treatment plans work best when we build them together.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral?
No. You can schedule directly.Do you only do medication management, or psychotherapy too?
I do both, and it's up to you. Psychiatric medications usually work best alongside therapy. If you already have a therapist, great. If not, or if you'd rather see one person instead of two, I can provide integrated care. What should I expect at the first visit?
We'll spend about an hour going through what's been going on, your history, and what you're hoping for. You'll leave with a plan, not just a follow-up date.Do you accept insurance?
Yes. I am currently in-network with Aetna, Ascension (SmartHealth), BlueCross BlueShield of TN, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna, Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NJ, and Independence Blue Cross PA.What are the self-pay rates?
- Initial Psychiatric Evaluation: $225
- Medication Management + Brief Supportive Therapy: $145
- Psychotherapy: $150If you're using insurance, you pay only your plan's copay, deductible, or coinsurance. I can also provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement.QbCheck computerized ADHD testing, when needed, is a $123 add-on to your visit. This fee applies whether you're using insurance or self-pay.Can you order labs?
Yes. Labs are important in psychiatry, so I pass them through at cost with no markup. Many common tests run as little as $5, and you see the exact price upfront. Draws are done at a nearby Quest or Labcorp location. How long are sessions?
Initial evaluations are about 60 minutes. Follow-up visits are typically 25 to 50 minutes, depending on the type of appointment.Do you prescribe controlled substances?
Yes, when clinically appropriate. Controlled substances are closely monitored, including regular checks through the state prescription database and periodic urine drug screens. Is my information kept confidential?
Absolutely. Your records and everything we discuss are protected by federal and state privacy laws. The only exceptions are situations involving safety, like risk of harm to yourself or others, or suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult. These are rare, and I'll always be upfront with you.I'm interested. What's the next step?
